A relaxed half day in one of the oldest cities in England. Walk the medieval streets, stand inside the Cathedral that has welcomed pilgrims since the year 597, see the Westgate towers and the Marlowe quarter. Coffee, lunch and quiet moments built around your pace.
A relaxed half day in Tenterden, the Jewel of the Weald, with its tree-lined green and high street full of independent shops. Time for the country's finest heritage steam railway, a wander past Smallhythe Place, and a proper coffee or lunch. Chapel Down, England's leading vineyard, sits right on the edge of town.
A full day in the Kent the postcards are made of. Sissinghurst Castle Garden in the morning, a country pub for lunch, then your pick of Great Dixter or Hole Park in the afternoon. Spring colour, autumn colour, and time enough to see it all properly.
Ashford and Tenterden sit at the heart of England's wine country. A full day taking in two or three of the area's best names, from Westwell Wine Estate just outside Ashford to Chapel Down at Tenterden, Biddenden Vineyards and Gusbourne at Appledore, with the Curious Brewery in Ashford for a relaxed finish. The advantage of a driver is simple: nobody has to choose between the tasting and the drive home.
You do not have to go far. The Ashford Designer Outlet has around a hundred stores and plenty of places to eat, and a short drive away Godinton House and Gardens is one of Kent's finest historic estates, with a quiet afternoon to be had among the borders. An easy half day, shopping and gardens, close to home.
